Due to the lack of updates on this blog, you'd think that I had been either swallowed whole by some monstrous beast hiding in the wildreness or living a life so excruciatingly dull that nothing could be said for it save : I live in the middle of nowhere. Neither could be father from the truth. I am only so busy and in awe of my life (in all possible ways one can feel awe) that I forget to write about it, or I blink and the day is done, the week has passed and I am on to some new venture. So I will strat with today and then I will write the backlog of yesterdays and maybe a few tomorrows. For being the middle of nowhere, life sure does move fast!
Today is Halloween at LaLu and everywhere, I am sitting in the library furiously typing before the 7th hour bell. I'm clad in my favorite blue velvet renaissance gown, which I 'boorowed" nearly a decade ago from the costume shop at the Beck. I am masquerading as Lady somebody. my students are dressed too, as the Fighting Irish, pirates, nurses (far to scantilly clad to be in HS) other renaissance characters, Mario, a scarecrow and yes, Sponge Bob Square Pants (lives in a pineapple under the sea....) It's fun to see the kids parading around in costume and enjoying all the liberties of disguise. They can joke with teachers in a new way, can flirt can giggle uncontrollably and can be different: out of uniform, out of selves for one day. They can live out their fantasies. And they like it too when the faculty dress up. We came this morning ad a Cyborg, Sally (from the Nightmare Before Christmas) George Clooney from the Perfect Storm, a firefighter, a magistrate, a blond bombshell witch etc. We cam eto play and to be in disguise as well. Today more of my student s have referred to me as "My Lady' or ' Her Magesty" than have called me "Ms. Bork".
I think this trend should continue when I am out of costume.
